#988 Update

We are incredibly proud to share that the Nickel Open Board has donated $27,000 to the #988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, made possible entirely through the generosity of those who participated in the Fund A Cause portion of our 2026 Golf Tournament Banquet. The Board chose to direct these funds to #988 because of the continued, measurable impact the Lifeline is having in communities across the country—particularly among adolescents and young adults.

As we previously shared in our Good News feature highlighting reporting by The New York Times, suicide rates among youth and young adults declined by an average of 11% following the launch of #988, representing thousands of young lives. Those results reinforce why access to immediate, compassionate mental health support matters and why we believe so strongly in supporting this vital resource. To everyone who raised a hand, made a donation, and helped us reach $27,000—thank you. Together, we are helping ensure that when someone reaches out for help, someone is there to answer.

Since the launch of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline in July 2020, U.S. suicide rates have declined by an encouraging 11%. Research highlighted by Ellen Barry suggests that nearly 4,400 adolescents and young adults may be alive today because of the life-saving impact of 988.

At the Nickel Open Fund, we have proudly supported the 988 initiative since its beginning through our valued partnership with NAMI Minnesota. From branded pens and stickers to community outreach, we are committed to raising awareness and connecting people to critical mental health resources.

This meaningful progress is only possible because of supporters like you. Together, we are helping save lives, spark hope, and strengthen mental health advocacy for future generations.
